A quintessentially British Weekend- the sunny weather was the crowning glory of the annual Rolls-Royce Enthusiasts Club Rally and Concours d’Elegance. Hundreds of Rolls-Royce and Bentley cars from around the world flocked to the beautiful grounds of the 16th Century Burghley House Estate to display, discuss and be immersed in everything Rolls Royce.
We arrived at the estate, driving up a magnificent entryway with spectacular views of Burghley House, making sure we parked as far away from the Rolls-Royce’s as possible- they absolutely outshone our VW by a mile! The rally grounds were bustling, with a full roster of talks, seminars and displays, but we knew that we couldn’t start our day until we’d checked out the Burghley House grounds first.
A picturesque backdrop to the event, the Elizabethan country house is loaded with history and surrounded by a wonderland of walled gardens, hedge mazes and 10,000 acres of farmland. Though sweltering, we couldn’t stop ourselves from exploring the courtyards- a vintage Rolls-Royce was being displayed outside of the foyer, which really set the tone of the rally for us!
The RREC is a membership collective of enthusiasts who all share a common love of Rolls-Royce and Bentley cars; though not all owners of the cars, the annual RREC rally is the perfect opportunity for members to gather with their cars for the weekend to be fully immersed in everything Rolls-Royce. This year was the first year that the rally was open to the public, and the pinnacle was the display of a collection of Rolls-Royces’ including a Spectre, Ghost and phantom, which we got in and didn’t want to leave. Absolutely enthralled by the starlight ceiling in the phantom- which depicts the constellations exactly as they were over Goodwood when the car was unveiled, and the doors which opened and closed by button; it definitely took first place as our favourite.
Another interesting exhibit was the ‘little Su’ 1905 Rolls-Royce on display next to other restored models, fully exemplifying the history of the brand which the club is passionate about embodying and maintaining.
Alongside enjoying the Rally, we had a great time catching up and chatting with the journalists and reporters who also came along, and it was great to see just how much enjoyment everyone found at the rally- even those who aren’t car enthusiasts! We loved watching the Rally highlights back on ITV Anglia over the next few days after the weekend, and we’re truly excited for next year’s event!
